The St. Francis of Assisi Indian Community would like you to share the richness of their religious traditions at the Celebration of the Eucharist, along with their native food and music at a modest reception which follows in the Gathering Hall immediately after Mass.
The Shrine of Velankanni, in honor of Mother Mary, located in South India can be traced to the mid-16th century and is attributed to three miracles: the apparition of Mary and the Christ Child to a slumbering shepherd boy, the curing of a lame boy, and the rescue of Portuguese sailors from a violent sea storm. The Shrine, is also known as the "Lourdes of the East", and is one of the most frequented religious sites in India. Velankanni church (Our Lady of Good Health) was built in the late 16th century by the Portuguese in honor of their rescue at sea.
Come with your family and join us in Celebrating Velankanni, Our Lady of Good Health!
