We have these celebrations to honor our patron St. Francis of Assisi, to learn more about him and his life and to bring our community together. This year we had a con-celebrated multilingual Mass, with participation by many of our parish groups, and with excellent music from our talented musicians and singers. During the Mass we remembered major events in St. Francis’s life, made the connection between him and Pope Francis and mentioned the many ways that we continue to reach out to the poor.
We heard a presentation on the Pope’s letter, Laudato Si, enjoyed a family style pancake breakfast, blessed the animals and enjoyed a 50’s style dinner dance with wonderful music and live performances by Elvis and others. Over 300 people enjoyed this event.
On Sunday we had a delicious chicken BBQ that people enjoyed here, or took home with them. Although the feast day was not as big as other years it was very enjoyable and it showed us a number of things that we can build on for next year.
We are very grateful to the following people who did a wonderful job in making things happen: Jim Castle, Vince Sunseri, Linda Wright, Larry Loman, Tony Mijares, Fernando Saraya, Fr. Jeff, our staff, and all the wonderful volunteers that helped serve and cook.
