The popular media has given publicity to some of the deliberations in the Synod on the Family, and has brought forward the question of ministry to divorced people. The church in San Jose has a longstanding ministry in this area covering group meetings, retreats, individual counseling and facilitating the church annulment process. This ministry has changed and developed over the years and I am not conversant with all of it at this time. What I do know is that Fr. Jeff, Fr. Peter and I work with people in the parish who seek an annulment and that we respond to any questions that people have. We have also seen the healing and the peace of mind that comes for those who do the process.
This work is going to be expedited because of Pope Francis having made the process simpler and having given more authority to the local bishop to grant annulments in straightforward and obvious cases. Also, when we receive the final documentation from the synod we will have more information and guidelines for our ministry to parishioners who have gone through the trauma of divorce. If you or someone you know has a question or seek information contact us and we will be glad to sit down with you.
Peace and Blessings,
